  • About Us

The Young Enterprise (YE) Program was introduced to Malaysian secondary schools in 1989 by the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce to give the students an opportunity to learn about business through hands-on experience. The YE Program, is similar to the U.K. program (which is more than 50 years old) and to Junior Achievement Company Program in the United States. Malaysia is the first country in this region to adopt this program as an extra-curricular activity for secondary school students.

A maximum of 30 students (15-19 years old on December 31, 2017) are selected from each school to form a mini-company. Over a period of 10 months, they will learn how to run a business, and to learn proper business procedures through the complete life-cycle of a company, from capitalization to liquidation with the assistance from the Corporate Advisors from their sponsor company. YE student companies often make profits. However, the success of the program is not judged solely by financial results, but rather in developing teamwork and business skills as a foundation for future achievements.

JA Worldwide® (Junior Achievement) is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. Junior Achievement programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Students put these lessons into action, and help strengthen their communities.

Junior Achievement was founded in 1919 by Theodore Vail, president of American Telephone & Telegraph; Horace Moses, president of Strathmore Paper Co.; and Senator Murray Crane of Massachusetts. JA Worldwide’s purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. JA Worldwide reaches 9.3 million students per year in 367,000 classrooms and afterschool locations in more than 120 countries around the world.

JA programs were introduced in Malaysia in 2008, through a collaboration with the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) and had established a strong CSR presence in Malaysia through the JA More Than Money, JA FedEx ITC and Young Enterprise (YE) program. JA Malaysia was successfully registered in April 2016, and stands firm in its commitment to grow and execute JA programs throughout Malaysia, to provide Malaysian students with a better understanding of business knowledge and financial literacy. In 2016, JA Malaysia’s programs reached more than 3000 students, and we aim to increase this figure aggressively every year.
